A second case of monkeypox infection has been identified in Russia. This was reported in the management of Rospotrebnadzor in St. Petersburg.
The department clarified that the man was diagnosed with characteristic symptoms upon his return from Europe. Now he has been placed in an infectious diseases hospital, nothing threatens his life. Doctors took biomaterials from the patient, the analysis of which confirmed monkeypox.
“The circle of contacts of the sick person has been determined. Contact persons are under medical supervision. The department immediately launched an epidemiological investigation. A complex of anti-epidemic measures was organized in a timely manner. The possibility of further spread of the infection has been stopped, – reported to the service.
The first case of the disease in Russia monkeypox revealed in July also in St. Petersburg. In August, it was reported that the only patient was discharged from the hospital. There have been no new cases since then. Head of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko noted earlier that mass vaccination against monkeypox not required.
According to the official statistics, the number of infected in the world today exceeds 55 thousand people. Symptoms of the disease include fever, general intoxication of the body, rash, sore throat and head.
Earlier, we reported that the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) developed a vaccine against monkeypox, which is currently undergoing preclinical studies.
