The Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA) has developed a vaccine against monkeypox. This was stated by Veronika Skvortsova, head of the FMBA, at the session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) “Drug safety – the strategic course of the social policy of the Far East: challenges and opportunities”.
“Currently, a modern vector vaccine against monkeypox has been developed, at the moment it is already undergoing preclinical studies”– said Skvortsova.
The first case of the disease was detected in the Russian Federation in July. In August, information appeared that the only patient had been discharged from a hospital in St. Petersburg. No more cases of the disease were detected. In mid-June, Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko said that mass vaccination in the fight against monkeypox was not required. By the way, The head of the WHO called the outbreak health emergency.
With monkeypox, there is fever, general intoxication of the body, rash, sore throat and headache. The causative agent of infection is close to human smallpox. Despite the name, it can also be transmitted from some other animals.
